MLS Bio
Monica was born into a talented family of singers. The eldest of six, she and her siblings were raised in Wetumpka, Alabama, where they were inspired, encouraged, and trained by their parents, the late George Bowen and Pearlie Ellis.
Beginning to minister in song, she organized Lisa Stevenson & Company in 1997. With this passion, Monica Lisa was licensed as a minister of the gospel in 1998 and has since traveled, sharing the stage with a multitude of recording artists: The Legendary Caravans, Kathy Taylor, Pastor Marvin Sapp, The Canton Spirituals, Angie Spivey, Evangelist Dorothy Norwood, Pastor Shirley Caesar, The Williams Brothers, Nancy Jackson and countless others.
Monica Lisa has a litany of achievements and experiences in various fields. She has received multiple nominations from the Gospel Choice Awards, winning Best Female Artist in 2008 and Song of the Year for 2009. She is the recipient of the 2008 Be Sickle Smart Competition for the Sickle Cell Foundation, in which her song “Lord Keep Me” is featured on the Foundation’s compilation project. Nominated in the categories Best New Artist and Best Traditional Female for the 2009 Stellar Awards and as the Ensound Awards’ winner for Best Traditional Performance, Monica Lisa has much before her. And currently up for the 2010 YGEA Award of Best Female Artist, as well as the 2010 Gospel Choice Award for Best Female Artist, Monica Lisa is nothing less than grateful.
Still taking joy in singing for a variety of audiences, Monica Lisa has performed at several events including, Dr. Bobby Jones Birthday Celebration, Atlanta Live, the Gospel Choice Awards, the Word Network’s Rejoice in the Word with Bishop Greg Davis, the Rhythm of Gospel Awards, the Ensound Music Awards and a recent appearance in Tyler Perry’s latest film– “Madea’s Big Happy Family Reunion” among other things.
From releasing her first debut album, “Finally…In God’s Time” in March 2009, to the signing of a national distribution deal with Central South Distribution, Monica Lisa has been overwhelmed by the blessings of God when one walks in His timing.
And yet amongst it all, Monica Lisa’s greatest blessings are in her four children, Qwenton, Khalon, D’errica and Derrick, Jr., and husband, Derrick Stevenson, who is also her musical director and producer.
We are very excited to announce that Monica & Derrick’s label, Puretonez Records has gone into a joint venture with Future Of Faith Records to release Monica’s records. We have also just recently shot the video to her lead single, “So Glad He Saved Me”.
2011 will be a Stellar year for MLS, Puretonez, Monicaz Muzik, & Future OF Faith Records!
